The main US investor visas are the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa and the E-2 Treaty Investor Visa. The EB-5 visa allows foreign investors to gain permanent residency (green card) by investing in a US business and creating jobs. The E-2 visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa for investors from countries with a treaty with the US, allowing them to come to the US to supervise and direct the development of a US business they have invested in. 

• Requires a significant investment (currently $800,000 or $1,050,000 in certain areas) in a new commercial enterprise. 
  • Must create or preserve at least 10 jobs for US workers. 
  • Can lead to permanent residency (green card) for the investor and their family. 
  • Administered by the USCIS. 
  • Applicants must prove that the funds are legally obtained and not derived from illegal activities. 
  • There are also specific requirements regarding how the investment is structured, such as being in a Target Employment Area (TEA). 

• Available to investors from countries with a treaty of commerce and navigation with the US. 
  • Allows investors to enter the US to supervise and direct the development of a business in which they have invested. 
  • Not a pathway to permanent residency, but can be extended for several years. 
  • Investors must show that they have invested a substantial amount of capital in a viable enterprise. 
  • The business must also be an active, ongoing, and legitimate enterprise.
